NIKKI BLONSKY SURPRISES SPECIAL NEEDS ARTS STUDENTS Great Neck Raised Actress Proves She Hasn’t Forgotten Her LI Roots (Actress Nikki Blonsky with Great Neck Arts Center special education teacher Brooke Greiff)
February 11th, 2012 (Great Neck, NY) On Tuesday, February 5, 2013, students in the Great Neck Arts Center’s special needs "Dinner, Music & Art" class enjoyed a treat--a screening of the 2007 movie "Hairspray", followed by a surprise visit from the star of the film, Great Neck’s own Nikki Blonsky. The visit and the film screening were arranged by the Arts Center’s special needs teacher, Brooke Greiff.
The students, ages 19-21, enjoyed the movie and popcorn donated by Great Neck’s Clearview Squire Cinemas. Afterwards, they were delighted by the surprise meet-and-greet with the actress, who portrayed heroine Tracy Turnblad in the movie. It made for an exciting and memorable evening for the students, who were thrilled to have their pictures taken with Nikki Blonsky and to get her autograph.
“We are so proud of our Special Needs Art Classes and of the outstanding commitment that the teacher, Brooke Greiff, has to her students,” commented Regina Gil, Great Neck Arts Center Executive Director. “This very special celebrity appearance by Nikki Blonsky made everyone very, very happy.”
(Actress Nikki Blonsky poses with students in the Great Neck Arts Center’s special needs “Dinner, Music and Art” class, along with teacher Brooke Greiff and assistant teacher Cindy Zubli)
"Dinner, Music and Art" is a class for young adults with special needs that introduce them to an array of arts activities such as ceramics, painting, jewelry making, dance, movies, and other creative projects. It was created at the Great Neck Arts Center in summer 2012 by special education teacher Greiff and assistant teacher Cindy Zubli. Since its start, it has presented special needs students with a unique opportunity to both socialize and explore their creative side outside of a school environment. The Arts Center welcomes inquiries about the class from any interested parents or teachers who may know of a young adult or child with special needs who would benefit from this class. Brooke Greiff can be reached at the Great Neck Arts Center at 516-829-2570 or by visiting their website at http://www.greatneckarts.org

In existence for less than 9 months, Salon Rock has truly proven to be a force in trend setting salon and hair design; coming in fourth place nationally out of hundreds of applicants - which also included second place finisher The Gatsby, made famous on the Jerseylicious TV program on the Style network.
"We are humbled and very appreciative to be recognized in such a manner" remarked Stephen Marcuccio, Owner of Salon Rock. "What makes this all the more exciting is that we are only in business here in Roslyn for less than a year!" he continued.
The winners were chosen by using tallies from editors, art directors, and outside expert judges who based scores on the essays and photographs submitted by representatives from each salon.
Salon Rock was also recently featured in Newsday’s "What They’re Wearing" column for their Backstage Pass music event - which happens on the last Thursday of every month at 7pm and features food, drink and music with haircutting demonstrations from Salon Rock’s top top stylists and fashion shows from local Roslyn clothing shops. The next such event is scheduled for Thursday July 29th featuring music by Mari Solis http://www.marisolis.com and a Latin flavored theme.
About Salon Rock: It has been said that style has a soundtrack. From the pompadour to the beehive, Mop Top to Mohawk, beauty and music have always shared the stage. Mattituck, NY, July 12, 2010 – The East End GreenFest returns to Strawberry Fields Fairgrounds in Mattituck, NY on Saturday and Sunday, July 24 and 25, from 10am-8pm on Saturday and 10am-5pm on Sunday. The two day “open air” celebration of all things local and green on Long Island was voted the “Event of the Year” for the entire East End from the Readers of Dan’s Papers last summer.
The number of new “Green” businesses on Long Island has grown enormously over the past year ensuring this year’s GreenFest will be bigger than ever. “We were so happy with the response we got at GreenFest last summer, and as the green movement has grown so much this past year we promise an even bigger and better show,” said event organizer Deborah Dufton. “The crowds will be treated to a fun atmosphere filled with live music, local artists, unique performers, local food and wine, tons of free samplings and lots of great ideas about ways live a greener lifestyle.”
A long list of exhibitors will be attending the event from many different Green walks of life including: Renewable Energy, Green Building, Waste Reduction, Organic and Natural Products, Natural Health and Beauty, Green Kids, Green Living, Healthy Foods and Beverages, Green Transportation, Earth Friendly Fashion, and Local and National Environmental Non-Profit Associations.
Live local music is a central part of the weekend’s festivities with many original New York acts taking to the solar powered concert stage, including Caroline Doctorow, RBC, the Mondays, Big River Ransom, If, But, When, and Black Suit Youth. An even longer list of performers will be entertaining festival goers this year including fire dancers, dance troupes, hula hoop performers, POI arts instruction, and a fire eater. There will be book signings and special guests as well, which will be announced at a later date.
“Long Islanders are really embracing the green movement in big numbers.” said Dufton, “Our phones started ringing in March from excited new green business owners that wanted to get the word out to the eager GreenFest crowds.” “And the sponsors this year were so gracious”, added Dufton, “including News12, WEHM, Hamptons.com, WSHU, LI Parent, Seventh Generation, Andersen Windows, LIPA, Edible East End, Dan’s Papers and Got Apparel.com”.
As always, GreenFest asks that all attendees bring a non-perishable food item, household item or personal care product, to support the local food bank, CAST. Lets Rock and Roll for a cure Website Raises Money for cancer wellness programs
Floral Park,NY An early breast cancer diagnosis and the latest treatments saved Elaine Beermanns life and she wants other cancer patients to have the same chance at success that she did.
Thats why she founded LetsRockandRoll.net, a website selling clothing, jewelry and other products. The site donates 50% of the profits to breast cancer awareness and treatment programs at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, including clinical trials of drugs that can stop and aggressive breast cancer identified by the HER2 protein marker.
Money donated by LetsRockandRoll.net also helps provide wellness programs for women going through cancer treatments such as chemotherapy and radiation. These programs include:
Free Yoga classes in the home. Since women lose their hair as a result of chemotherapy treatment, many do not feel comfortable taking classes at a gym.
Reiki energy healing techniques to restore the bodys balance.
Handy Husband services, for women who need help around the house.
Babysitting, Hairstyling and Beauty Care services.
LetsRockandRoll.net will host a fundraiser July 17, 2010 to help fund wellness programs for people going through cancer treatment.
The event will be held from 3:00pm -9:00pm at The Surf’s Out at Kismet on Fire Island, New York. It will feature several bands performing live, raffles, and special giveaways.
LetsRockandRoll.net was founded by Beermann after her 2006 diagnosis of breast cancer.
I was lucky and caught it early, Beermann said. I had a needle biopsy, then an MRI, and then when I finally got the news from my doctor he told me there was hope.
I looked him right in the eye and said, Then lets rock and roll! He liked that!
Because of early detection, Elaine had a lumpectomy to remove the tumor. Post surgery brought a protocol of eight treatments of chemotherapy, followed by six weeks of radiation.
I lost my hair but gained a new perspective on life, Beermann said.

TUESDAY, JUNE 1ST HELLS KITCHEN VIEWING PARTY with Vibe Lounge Chef and this years new season 7 contestant Nilka Hendricks
ABOUT NILKA HENDRICKS: Nilka is a witty, strong minded, outgoing, and no nonsense person. In a crowd of a million people she stands out because of the energy that she illuminates where ever she goes. Nilka’s inspiration for what she does is her three beautiful daughthers. She is an army brat that was born in Monterey California in 1980. She was raised by a single mother who immigrated to America from Panama. She has three siblings’ two brothers, and a sister. She lived in Brooklyn until the age of 5 yrs old, and sadly that year her grandmother passed away from breast cancer. The devastation of the death of her grandmother made Nilka decide she wanted to be a nurse. Nilka grew up in Glen Cove, New York that is where she became a single mother at the age of seventeen. Nilka didn’t want to become a statistic, so she would work odd jobs to support her family. After years of working these jobs, she decided to finally pursue her dream of becoming a nurse. While going to school, she also worked at L.I.J. Children’s Hospital. Even though Nilka worked hard in the medical field, she knew she had another love, cooking! In the back of her mind, she knew that her passion was to cook. When Nilka cooked at family functions, she enjoyed seeing the comfort her food brought to her family, as she received the many compliments of how well her dishes tasted. While contemplating changing careers, her mother was diagnosed with cancer. She took time off from school to help her mother through her recovery. During her mother’s recovery, Nilka enrolled in culinary school in Syosset, New York. One year later, she completed her culinary training and was hired as an intern at a catering company where she was hired permanently. She quickly moved up in the company as host of her own parties. Nilka moved onto take a position as the head chef at a new Vegan Café in Brooklyn, NY. She created the menu which included various vegetable wraps, fresh Portobello mushroom soup, and other exquisite foods. This job turned out to be a success for her, because it opened the door for her to work as a line cook in the Hamptons. She was so dedicated to succeeding, she traveled two hours each day to and from work, and if she was needed beyond her normal working hours, she would stay overnight. Through her commitment and hard work, Nilka was offered a job at the Empire Hotel in Manhattan, New York. She worked at the hotel until an opportunity arouse to audition for Hell’s Kitchen and the rest is in the making.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Stereo Serenade Reaches Finals of LOADED’s U.B.F at The Crazy Donkey
Farmingdale, NY (May 3, 2010) On Sunday May 16th beginning at 3pm, Loaded Rock Shows in conjunction with Samson, Music School Inc, Wayne Herrschaft Photography and Rock Solid Productions presents the Finals of their higely popular U.B.F Series at The Crazy Donkey, 1058 Route 110 farmingdale NY 11735 631-753-1975.
Standing out among the contestants are the musically interesting and visually pleasing chaps who make up the band Stereo Serenade from Suffolk County. Their clever mix of pop, funk and rock creates a sound not unlike acts such as Maroon 5, Gavin Degraw and The Script; whose song "Breakeven" the band covers often in their set - but with viola handling the riffs normally assicated with a lead guitar, adding to the uniqueness of the sound and presentation.
They are currently in the studio recording their first demos at the nationally renowned Vudu Studios and will be appearing all over the area this summer with stops scheduled at Huntington YMCA (May 29), Long Island Vinyl Exchange(June 17) and Westfield Sunrise Mall (August 13th).
ABOUT STEREO SERENADE (Kevin: Vox, Nick: Viola, Eli: Drums, Travis: Bass, Dan: Guitar) is a New York based Alternative/Pop band that expresses a new culmination of hip hop flavored groove coupled with the modern day sound of pop melody and soulful lyrical flow.
Breathing a new brand of pop the band offers today’s listening audience a genre of music that has been long awaited. The undeniable groove that gets your foot tappin’ with contemporary narratives that prove relatable, it’s hard to find a flaw with these boys.
This band is “cool” but they boast “classy” as well. They have dynamically introduced the viola to the mix. Leave all your pre-conceptions elsewhere however, because this is not your DMB model. They’ll keep you guessing with driving melodic lines, “hooky” guitar licks, solid grooves and catchy melodies that keep you whistling throughout the day.
Stereo Serenade has made its footprint and is on the rise by captivating audiences everywhere. Their polished live aesthetic and crisp sound makes it easy to love this band and stay for the evening. This is a show that needs to be seen and a sound that must be heard!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE "The Concert for Mickey" To Benefit American Cancer Society at Mulcahys - Saturday June 26 at 5pm
Wantagh, NY (April 26, 2010): On Saturday June 26 from 5pm-9pm, rock for a cause at Mulcahy’s Pub and Concert Hall in Wantagh as The BelAirs and the NYPD hold a benefit concert for the American Cancer Society. The band will celebrate its twentieth anniversary as Long Island’s best rock band by performing all your favorite hits of the 50s, 60s, and 70s.
The genesis for this event began in October of this year when the band lost a beloved friend, Michael Gallagher, to cancer. Michael was a retired NYPD sergeant who dedicated his life to the safety and security of others. The last concert he attended was The BelAirs’ show at Jones Beach last summer.
In the wake of his loss Michael Gallagher’s daughter Jacqueline contacted the band regarding a benefit in his memory, and the idea for "The Concert for Mickey" was born. The band would celebrate Michael’s life through a concert coinciding with its own twentieth anniversary. They would invite all of the former members back to join them in commemorating Michael and all the others we have lost, donating all of the proceeds to the American Cancer Society on behalf of the Sergeants Benevolent Association of the NYPD.
Founding member Sean Llewellyn remarked "It is the band’s hope that, in addition to Michael’s family and friends and his brothers and sisters of the NYPD, many others will join us for this great event."
The Concert for Mickey will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at Mulcahy’s Pub and Music Hall in Wantagh (3232 Railroad Avenue, (516) 783-1712) from 5-9pm. Tickets are $50, and can be purchased through the event website at http://www.theconcertformickey.com. Included in the ticket price is an open bar and buffet dinner; additionally, they will be having many exciting raffles!
Mr. Llewellyn continued "We are hoping for a very successful event, and a nice big check for the American Cancer Society. Let’s all make Michael Gallagher proud!"
ABOUT THE BEL AIRS: The BelAirs were formed in 1989 in Lynbrook, Long Island by high school friends Joe Licato, Sean Llewellyn, and Frank Maiello. Since much of the current popular music didn’t speak to them, they looked back to the songs and style of an earlier generation, specifically doo-wop and fifties rock and roll. Playing for audiences of nostalgic baby boomers and intrigued potential teenyboppers alike, The BelAirs progressed from house parties and backyard barbeques to performances at colleges and on television and radio. Key to their aesthetic was a commitment to be true to this music while bringing it forward into the present, rather than trying to recreate the magic of a lost age. As the nineties progressed and the three moved through college and into careers, the band adapted into a professional and successful club and restaurant band, establishing an impeccable reputation throughout the New York area. They also began to add elements of sixties rock, blues, and folk to their sound, morphing into a more urban, New York cousin to Springsteen’s E-Street Band. This sensibility and identity as keepers of a uniquely New York musical flame came to define the band’s choices as they progressed through their three albums to date: Streetmusic (1997), A Portrait of the Artists (1999), and Family Album (2007). Now also featuring Chris Bisciello, Fred Waxenberg, and Frank Saladino, the band continues to evolve and seek new challenges, with an original screenplay and accompanying soundtrack album in the works. Over their now twenty year stretch The BelAirs have been through over thirty band mates, many hundreds of songs, and countless gigs, but they seek to remain true to their original goal: to provide audiences with a visceral, passionate, and cathartic experience; a freedom from the mundane and the grind of life; and first hand contact with the Rock and Roll heartbeat inside us all.
